时尚街拍网CINDY CRAWFORD says that it was the age difference between herself and Richard Gere that eventually caused their four-year marriage to end in divorce in 1995.The couple met when she was just 22 and he was 37.She describes the period as a "great chapter in my life".
"I think a lot of what happened with Richard and I was that I was still 22 and at 22 - as a young woman - I was kind of still figuring out who I was and what I wanted to be and he was already 37," she said."So in some ways, he knew that I was still growing and changing.I just didn't want to hear it from him because at 22 you think you know everything.You think you're already formed.And then you realise, 10 years later, that they were totally right."
The supermodel and Gere started "dating straight away", after they met at a BBQ hosted by photographer Herb Ritts.The veteran actor showed Crawford how to deal with her rising fame.
"Being a nice girl from the Mid-West, my inclination is always to give in and say yes because I want people to like me," she told Oprah Winfrey."But then, I'd see Richard say, 'sorry I'm not doing that, but I see you.'For Richard, it was all about making that connection and making sure that they felt seen.You don't have to do the picture, you have to do the autograph, but it's important to take that moment to make a human connection."
