A CATWALK clad with red glitter and lined with twinkling candles, mad hats, leopard print and a new cinched silhouette - the menswear shows in Paris were brought to an extravagant close this weekend as the likes of John Galliano (responsible for the aforementioned catwalk), Comme des Garcons Homme Plus (the culprit behind the hats), Lanvin, Paul Smith and London fashion star Gareth Pugh all took their collections to the catwalk.
Getting the weekend off to a theatrical start, Galliano took a sartorial voyage back to the 18th Century with swashbuckling ensembles comprising tricorne hats, breeches and billowing shirts worn open.
At Dior, the drama continued with elaborate collars that folded back on themselves, long length slogan Ts and a combination of baggy and narrow trouser styles, while, Paul Smith brought a little bit of colour to the proceedings, teaming jaunty berets and beanies - in orange and green - with cycling vests worn under suits and neat monochrome bowties.
At Lanvin, it was all in the detail - scarves multiply knotted around the neck into bows and beautiful billowing coats cinched in at the waist to create a soft silhouette. For his debut menswear collection, meanwhile, Gareth Pugh brought us a sinister dark and metallic palette.Tessellating triangles armoured coats and trousers came slashed, ripped and worn with heavy boots.
