The real winner at the Oscars last night? It may very well have been Giorgio Armani, who on first count appears to have dressed more stars than any other designer on this year???s red carpet.
Of the 10 Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nominees for 2017, three of them chose Armani Priv?? for the ceremony, including winner Viola Davis.Armani tells us he was ???delighted??? to have made the bespoke vermillion silk gown that carried her to victory.
???Viola is an immensely talented actress whom I admire for her eclecticism and strong character,??? he says.???I???m delighted she won the Oscar, which was most deserved.I created an elegantly simple gown for her with small, precious details that highlight her shape and femininity.???
In recent awards seasons, Armani has cemented the bespoke arm of his business as a covetable red carpet label that women of all ages love to wear; one of his greatest skills being that he makes clothes his clients feel comfortable in, and subsequently dazzle in. Last year Cate Blanchett and Charlotte Rampling were the leading ladies in Armani Priv??.This time around, he says, a real highlight was to work with 63 year-old Best Actress nominee Isabelle Huppert.
"Isabelle is wonderful actress and dear friend,???Armani tells us.???I???m pleased to have created the gown she wore to the Oscars.Simple yet precious, the nude-coloured embroidered organza accentuates her delicate complexion and elegant figure.???
Sharing his sketches of the gowns with us, Armani details the level of workmanship that goes into every one of his custom-made dresses, with Best Supporting Actress nominee Nicole Kidman???s gown appearing to require the most intense crafting of them all.
???The unique apricot color was custom created utilising complementing shades of orange in layers of georgette,???Armani???s brand spokesperson states.???The lace overlay is hand-embroidered with arabesque motifs of deep and pale orange crystals.???
???Nicole is a gorgeous, captivating woman,??? adds Mr Armani.???She can be algid, yet fiery at the same time and possesses a unique elegance that is authentic and natural. She looked perfect in her Giorgio Armani Priv?? gown, which I created for her: the tapered silhouette accentuated her elegant, slender figure, while the colour and embroidery highlighted her delicate, radiant complexion."
Another highlight for the designer came from rising star Emma Roberts, who wore a vintage number from the Armani archives as part of this year???s sustainable Green Carpet Challenge, plus Sia, Zoe Kravitz and others who wore looks to the after-parties.
Those names may seem a lot newer to the industry than the aforementioned Oscar winners fronting the Armani roster, but give it time;we???ll soon see that the designer was laying the foundations for the next generation of his red carpet fans.
