A SPOKESPERSON for Alexander McQueen has apologised after an advert for a long-term unpaid internship was issued by mistake, and has reiterated the company's commitment to government guidelines regarding work experience and internships.
The email in question was sent to a selection of fashion colleges and universities, saying that the fashion house "urgently" needed a "talented knitwear student" for a period of six to 11 months. The intern would be required to work five days a week, and travel expenses would be paid,as well as £60-worth of lunch vouchers a month.
The label instantly issued an apology after being alerted to the oversight by complaints from students and fashion tutors.
"The advertisement in question was issued in error and was not in accordance with our HR policy, for which we apologise," they told The Huffington Post UK."In line with UK government guidance, Alexander McQueen has a strict policy of only accepting interns where the student is required to complete a placement as part of their higher or further education studies."
