THE global economic situation might be gloomy, but the fashion world has never shone brighter - or so says Alexandra Shulman.Having watched four weeks of shows for the spring/summer 2013 season, the Vogue editor is positive about the current state of the industry.
"I think it's interesting that when you have an economic environment as volatile as it is at the moment, that the fashion world is actually very vivid; is coming up with new ideas; and really feels as if it's going through an interesting and strong time," said Shulman."There is a feeling of creativity; of room for new people; that the new territories that are buying into fashion are really helping and possibly bringing in a new aesthetic. The East is influencing fashion, we're moving away from an American model."
Describing the season as one of "two halves", with the mood divided into upbeat and colourful and then minimal and pared-down, Shulman noted one standalone trend that will shape our wardrobes next summer: prepare to leave your summer dresses hanging in the wardrobe because trousers will reign supreme.
"The trend for the trouser suit that we saw for autumn/winter has continued, not so much the suit, but more the trousers have extended into the summer," Shulman explained."There were fewer dresses - separates are a much bigger story."
