JOHNNY DEPPmade sure to pay a special tribute to Amber Heard as he collected his latest award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival this weekend, thanking his wife of one year for her patience.

"I have to thank my wife, Amber, for putting up with me, for living with all these characters, which can't be easy," he said, reports US magazine, referring to the complex characters that he portrays.This year they included criminal Whitey Bulger in Black Mass for which he was collecting the coveted Desert Palm Achievement Award."It's hard for me - it's got to be hard for her."

The pair face a rollercoaster year of events with the forthcoming awards season (Depp has several nominations for Best Actor for Black Mass, while Heard's latest film, The Danish Girl, is tipped for trophy success) as well as less celebratory dealings with the Australian government.Heard has been summoned for a four-day trial in April for allegedly illegally bringing her dogs into the country by private jet last May.
